Davido Vs Waconzy

Davido, Waconzy,

:  Davido Vs WaconzyWaconzy Right To Speak The Truth

When Waconzy took to Channels TV yesterday to share his deep thoughts on the entertainment industry, he was a man on a mission; to say the truth, ignore all the codes of diplomacy, and call out the artistes whose music makes no sense. Pretty bold move.
He threw a few digs at various artistes and their work. Interestingly describing some popular hit makers as “little kids” making “noisy music”. Specifically, he pointed fingers at Wizkid, Olamide, Davido, and Tonto Dikeh. While dishing unreserved praise ofer 2face, Banky W, and Waje.
To Waconzy, “Skelewu is an empty song, Tonto’s ‘Hi’ lacks a verse, and Olamide ‘does not make sense in some of his songs’
Did he tell a lie?
Of course not. Waconzy spoke the truth, and that is what modern-day Nigeria needs. Deep down in our hearts we know that a great percentage of what is served as music to the public by these A-list artistes lack substance, a definite message or some sort of lyrical verses. They just grab an amazing beat, pump it full with gibberish and promotional money, then release it to grow on us like cancer.  We know this, but hate to admit it to ourselves.
Musical fandom in Nigeria is senseless in itself, but it does make the wait between now and our deaths more fun. We hold our musical icons dear, to the point of blind fellowship. Waconzy was guilty. He was guilty, of attacking our heroes and role models, he was guilty of telling them in the eye, that musically, they are of a substandard stock.  And most importantly, he was guilty of speaking our deep thoughts.
For those few minutes he decided to do away with the sycophancy and endemic diplomacy which rules the ‘classic Nigerian fan’, he took us and our artistes away from our deceptive comfort zone to a place where truth reigns.
And the truth, regrettably is bitter, harsh, and inhospitable. Waconzy served it up unapologetically. No harm intended.
